Trae Young Returns to Oklahoma: Joins Sooners as Assistant General Manager and Donates $1 Million

On March 31st, Oklahoma officially announced that Young has committed to joining their basketball program as the Assistant General Manager for the men's basketball team, the Sooners.
In addition to his new role, Young has made a generous $1 million donation (approximately Rp16.7 billion) to the university's athletics program. This move comes just a month after NBA superstar Stephen Curry took a similar position with Davidson College.

They were recently eliminated in the first round of the 2024-2025 NCAA tournament by the University of Connecticut. Young, who played for the Sooners during his one and only NCAA season in 2017-2018, emphasized that his focus in his new role would be on helping recruit the right talent to return the program to championship contention.
"It's an honor to be part of a program with such a rich history," said Young in a statement. "I'm excited to work with the coaching staff and front office to bring in the right players to help us succeed."

He spent his high school years at Norman North and later played one season with the Oklahoma Sooners, where he led the team to the Big 12 tournament and finished as the NCAA's top scorer. After declaring for the NBA Draft in 2018, Young was selected 5th overall by the Dallas Mavericks and immediately traded to the Atlanta Hawks.
Now in his seventh NBA season, Young is averaging 25.3 points, 3.5 rebounds, and 9.8 assists per game, with a career-high 11.5 assists this season.
